Single Roll, Double Roll and Two-Roll Sets: What Do These Terms Mean?
Wallpaper is sold in different sizes around the world. When you’re shopping for wallpaper, you might see terms like double roll or two roll set. But what does all this mean? We’ll define these terms so that you have the knowledge you need when shopping for wallpaper.
Single Roll
When we hear the term “single roll”, we should not think of it as being “one roll.” It is not one roll. Single roll is referring to a size and not to a quantity. A single roll is typically around 53cm wide and 4 metres long, although these measurements can vary by manufacturer.
Double Roll
In the UK, a typical double roll measures approximately 52 centimetres in width and 10 metres in length. So, a double roll is twice the length of a single roll. At Milton & King, our wallpaper rolls are sized at 61.5 centimetres wide and 10.05 metres long. If you’re working with a wallpaper installer to determine how much you need, it’s crucial that they have the correct measurements to ensure you purchase the right quantity. We suggest using the wallpaper calculator on our website, which is designed to accommodate our specific roll sizes and assist you in calculating the number of rolls required.
Two-Roll Set
On the Milton & King website, some designs are available as two-roll sets, which cater to larger-scale patterns. This means that designs like Cranes (illustrated above) are expansive enough to extend over two strips of wallpaper before they repeat. When you order a two-roll set and select a quantity of one, you will receive a complete set, which consists of two double rolls. Your wallpaper will include an A-ROLL and a B-ROLL, both clearly labelled on the packaging. Unless stated otherwise, the installation involves alternating between the two rolls: hang one drop from ROLL A, followed by a drop from ROLL B, and continue this pattern across the wall. It’s important not to use all of ROLL A before starting on ROLL B, as this can result in mismatched patterns.
Here are a couple of examples of designs available as two-roll sets:
With a solid grasp of double rolls and two-roll sets, you’re now well-prepared to select wallpaper that suits your space effectively. This knowledge will help you avoid the inconvenience of ordering insufficient or excessive quantities. Plus, you won’t be misled by bargain prices for wallpaper that offers only half the coverage of a double roll. So, go ahead and shop for wallpaper with confidence and a keen eye!
